This print design project was created to develop commemorative posters, supporting the client with high-quality printed materials that reflect the significance of the subject and communicate the intended message clearly.
Renfrew Victory Baths Posters
The brief was to create a series of A3 commemorative posters to be handed out at an exhibition celebrating the centenary of Renfrew Victory Baths. Renfrewshire Leisure requested that the designs take inspiration from the distinctive style of Frank Henry Masson, whose work is closely associated with the Baths and their history.
This was a particularly enjoyable project, not only because of the historical significance of the building, but also because of the opportunity to work with current photographs of the Baths. Seeing the building as it stands today helped inform the design approach, allowing the posters to celebrate both the Baths’ heritage and their continued presence within the community.
The original brief was for a single poster design. However, as the project developed and the imagery was explored in more depth, it became clear that multiple designs would better reflect the story and character of the Baths. As a result, the project evolved into a set of three commemorative posters, each highlighting different visual elements of the building while maintaining a consistent overall style.
Design approach and print considerations
This print design project focused on producing clear, respectful and well-balanced commemorative posters for print. Particular attention was paid to typography, layout and visual hierarchy to ensure the designs were easy to read while remaining visually engaging. The aim was to create posters that felt appropriate for a commemorative context, without appearing overly ornate or distracting from the subject matter.
Print production was an important consideration throughout the process. The designs were prepared with professional printing in mind, ensuring colour choices, contrast and spacing would reproduce accurately and remain legible in an exhibition environment. The posters needed to work both as hand-outs for visitors and as display pieces within the venue.
The finished designs successfully supported the centenary exhibition, providing visitors with a meaningful keepsake that celebrated Renfrew Victory Baths’ history while acknowledging its ongoing role and significance today.
